Randy provides the following capabilities to ForeFront clients: Strategic Sourcing, vendor capability assessment and selection, competitive bidding, contracting, demand and production planning, inventory management, supply chain analysis, supply chain improvement, innovation, business process outsourcing and commodity price risk management.

Randy has direct experience in the marketing, financing, manufacturing, procurement and sales of all major food categories: dairy, meat, snacks, baking, confectionary, grocery, foodservice, etc.

Randy gained his expertise through 25 years at Kraft Foods, where he advanced through leadership positions, culminating in global responsibility for raw material and packaging supply chains and risk management with $12B in spend and 55 people.

In Packaging, Randy modernized Kraft’s Packaging supply chain efforts. Packaging to include folding cartons, corrugate, rigid resin and flexible resin. $1.4B annual spend. Randy developed “component price’ packaging contracts by separating ‘commodities’ (plastic resin, linerboard, carton stock, aluminum) from ‘conversion’ activities.

In Supply Chain, Randy maintained efficient lead times and safety stocks, resulting in 99% raw material availability. He actively managed Days of Supply, based on changing product demand, production schedules, and unforeseen plant issues (e.g. unscheduled maintenance, weather events). Randy developed and implemented ERP systems, including JDA and SAP, and serviced 37 plants across the U.S.

In Packaging Lean Six Sigma, Randy deployed L6S black and Master Black belts to uncover losses in resin and paper-based packaging. Categories to include resin-based films, multi-layer films and bags; resin based rigid packaging to include bowls, cups and trays; paper packaging to include primary packaging (e.g. “Lunchables” box) and secondary packaging (corrugated).

In External Manufacturing, Randy led the function covering 7 manufacturing processes — dairy, coffee, dry-mix & pack, refrigerated kit assembly, etc.

In Commodities, Randy managed the supply chains of dairy, meat, coffee, cocoa, nuts, grains and oils, sugar, packaging and energy.

Randy is a frequent industry speaker, covering topics such as Forward Contracting in Packaging Materials and Supply Chain Continuous Improvement. Randy was the primary presenter to Kraft’s Board of Directors on raw material price risk, and travelled with Kraft’s sales force to major customers to explain price trends.

Before joining Kraft, Randy was an Account Representative at the investment bank Drexel Burnham Lambert in Chicago, Illinois. In this capacity, he developed and executed futures and options hedging strategies for and with bakeries, confectionaries, snack manufacturers, etc.

A native of New York, Randy earned a B.S. in Forestry with honors from Syracuse University. His studies included Pulp/Paper manufacturing and petro-chemical products manufacture. He later earned an MBA from Northwestern’s J.L. Kellogg School of Management, majoring in Supply Chain and Finance.

Randy is a current or former member of the Snacking, Nutrition and Convenience Association, the Sweets & Snacks Association, the American Baker’s Association (IBIE), Pack Expo, Label Expo, the Institute of Food Technologists, the Institute of Supply Chain Management, and the Executive’s Club of Chicago.

Randy serves on the board of The Auxin Group. The Auxin group prepares professional women for re-entry to the traditional workforce by facilitating corporate project work.

Randy’s volunteer interests include Exodus Refugee Immigration (Disaster and Humanitarian Relief), where he helps displaced international families settle in Chicagoland, and Matanya’s Hope (education), where he sponsors Kenyan children’s’ education, and has provided support on-site.

Randy currently resides in Northbrook, Illinois, is married and has three children. Randy’s hobbies include triathlon and golf.
